Change: Alter your clothes or alter your body

“Change is inevitable – except from a vending machine.” Robert C. Gallagher

Everything is going to change; only change is permanent. Leader has to watch market, world, time and people. How ‘change’ will affect the moral of the team, business and goals. Change resistance is to be handled positively. You should focus on deep changes instead of superficial changes.

It is not the strongest of the species that survive or the most intelligent but the one most responsive to change. People or orgnisations who have not changed themselves with time have to pay heavy cost. For example in India, companies like Fiat, Ambassador, etc. have not changed with the speed. Today they are paying heavy prices because of not changing with time. Honda, Toyota and Suzuki are changing very fast. Today, they are planning for the year 2011.Their R& D team is very much active on the new products. How many of us or our organization is working for the year 2011.

Credit cards have replaced currency. Color T.V has replaced black & white T.V., TATA SKY has replaced channel broadcasting. Mobile industries have replaced landline telephones. Home appliances have replaced labour industry. SMS industry has replaced Postage industry. E-mail industry has replaced courier industry.

World is changing at very high speed. People or organisation, who will not cope up with the speed, will be out dated, even if they are market leaders of today.

You have to change for survival and survival is mandatory. We have to change our selves first instead of changing situations or people around us. Jack Welch says, “My computer language is FORTRAN and my kids language is html. But, I am a passionate learner and will learn faster.” Recently, in the film ‘Ghajini’ fame Bollywood star Aamir Khan has changed himself to justify the role. He had gone to gym for workout of daily 4 hours up to 13 months. Simply great and astounding. To perform the best, one has to travel through the roads of changes.

“When you are through changing, you are thorough,” said Bruce Barton very profoundly about Change. All changes may not bring growth to life but it makes sense in life. As all your moves does not bring progress in life.

I think change is the biggest insurance policy. Changing attitude create security in the life on the path of prosperity. “The only man I know who behaves sensibly is my tailor; he takes my measurements anew each time he sees me. The rest go on with their old measurements and expect me to fit them”. George Bernard Shaw supplements the change process with his own experience.

There is nothing wrong in the change unless it is in the right direction. Superficies or temporary change will not produce expected results.

“Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.” Arnold Bennett quotes (British novelist, playwright, critic, and essayist. 1867-1931).Change process creates uncomfortable zone but it does not mean you have to live in standing water. Status-quo is dying and alteration is living. Before ‘change’ creates change in you change yourself.

I suggest three points formula below:

A) I must change myself with permanent effects.

B) I believe I can change it.

C) I have power within to change myself (No external motivation required).

I am responsible for my change and I must follow my decisions by within. The first change policy, therefore, has to be organized abandonment. The leader following change puts every product, every service, every process, every market, every distribution channel, every customer and every end use on trial for its life. The question it has to ask and ask seriously is “If we did not do this already, would we, knowing what we now know, go into it?” If the answer is no, the reaction must not be “Let’s make another study.” The reaction must be “What do we do now?”
